VALE OF GLAMORGAN OLDER PERSONS HOUSING STRATEGY
During my tenure as your Councillor I have raised this issue frequently with the Community Councils, The Vale Planning Committee and Environment and Regeneration Scrutiny Committee.
We are told that by the year 2035 the population of the Vale over the age of 75 is expected to have risen by 70 % but we have limited provision for where our aging population will safely live.
I speak regularly with the more mature residents of our communities. There are many who have raised their families here and have helped to develop our excellent social organisations. They want to remain part of the community that they love. They may however reach a stage in life when they might need a more manageable property or a little more support in their own homes. There is little choice locally and they may have no alternative but to move away.
I am therefore very pleased to confirm that in the current review of the Vale Council Local Development Plan The Council is at last preparing an older persons housing strategy. This document will set out how the Council and its partners will deliver the best housing outcomes for all older people in the Vale of Glamorgan and will consider future housing and care needs of older residents.
If re-elected as your Councillor I would continue to support the development of this strategy so that all ages can continue to enjoy life in our communities.
You'll never know when we might need a Dad's Army.
